Lou Varga is committed to making louvarga.com accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. We believe a memoir is, at heart, an act of connection — and a website that honors that memoir should welcome everyone who arrives at it.

Conformance Status
WCAG 2.1 — Level AA
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. They define three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
This Site is designed to be partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully conform to the accessibility standard, but we are actively working toward full conformance.
Accessibility Features in Place
This Site has been built with the following accessibility considerations:
- Color contrast — Foreground and background colors have been chosen to meet WCAG AA contrast ratios for body text and large text.
- Semantic HTML — Headings, lists, landmarks, and other elements use proper HTML5 semantics so assistive technologies can interpret structure correctly.
- Alternative text — Meaningful images include descriptive
altattributes; decorative images are marked accordingly. - Keyboard navigation — Site navigation, links, and buttons are operable using a keyboard alone.
- Resizable text — Content reflows and remains readable when text is resized up to 200%.
- Responsive design — The Site adapts to mobile, tablet, and desktop screens, and works in portrait and landscape orientations.
- Clear language — Content is written in plain, accessible English where possible.
- ARIA labels — Where appropriate, ARIA attributes provide additional context to assistive technologies.
Known Limitations
Despite our best efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known limitations include:
- Decorative script typography — Some accolades and taglines are set in a script font (Pinyon Script) for visual styling. The text remains selectable and is conveyed in standard fonts within the page's semantic structure and metadata.
- Third-party content — Links to external sites (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, social media, The Book Revue, Columbus Book Festival) lead to pages whose accessibility we do not control.
- Embedded images — Some legacy or third-party-hosted images may lack ideal alt text. We are reviewing these on an ongoing basis.
Assessment Methods
This Site is assessed using a combination of:
- Manual review against WCAG 2.1 Level AA success criteria
- Automated accessibility testing tools (such as Lighthouse and axe DevTools)
- Keyboard-only navigation testing
- Color contrast verification with WCAG-compliant tooling
